The low-pressure safety injection pump and emergency feedwater pump developed by China Nuclear Power Engineering Co and Shanghai-based Apollo Machinery Co have passed industrial authentication.
The news came from a meeting held by China Machinery Industry Federation and China General Machinery Industry Association. Ye Qizhen, an academician with the Chinese Academy of Engineering, was invited as the leader of the jury.
According to nuclear safety classification, the low-pressure safety injection pump is the Level-2 pumping facility while the emergency feedwater pump is the Level-3 pumping equipment.
The former can realize the functions of safe injection in case of incidents and residual heat removal during normal shutdown; the latter can inject demineralized water in the auxiliary water supply system into the steam generator to remove the heat of the reactor core in case of break in the main steam pipes or main feedwater pipes.
They will provide new choices of Level-2 and Level-3 pumps for Hualong One (HPR1000) reactor and secure interchangeablity of pumps for units 3 and 4 of Fangchenggang Nuclear Power Plant (NPP), a demonstration project deploying the Hualong One design.
The developers overcame technical difficulties with the applications of advanced methods to secure the development and authentication of the nuclear-grade pump.
The Hualong One equipment qualification for the first time adopted the air test to the centrifugal pump to verify the pump’s hydraulic performance under the circumstance that the pump inlet is in gassy condition for a long time.
The verification guarantees the reliability and safety of the third-generation low-pressure safety injection pump.
