Double Containment is adopted in HPR1000. The inner containment has a pre-stressed concrete structure and is critical to dome hoisting. Its inner surface is covered with a steel liner which is designed to prevent leakage. The outer containment is a reinforced concrete structure designed to prevent external hazards such as air plane crashes and explosion shock waves.
In order to deal with the complexity and difficulties in the construction of the inner shell, Guangxi Fangchenggang Nuclear Power Co and China Nuclear Power Engineering Co used advance notices for risks and design configurations, which improved management efficiency and coordination and ensured the concrete pouring was a success.
Located in Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region, Fangchenggang NPP is a demonstration project of HPR1000, a Gen-III nuclear power technology.
