The microbiological environmental protection technology to eliminate black and odorous water developed thanks to a collaboration between China General Nuclear Power Corporation (CGN) and Beijing WP United Biotechnology Co, was recently applied in the sample section of demonstration rivers and achieved the predicted results.

The experiments marked a breakthrough in CGN's water treatment technology and laid a solid foundation for accelerating the development of the environmental protection industry.

Such black and odorous water treatment technology belongs to the category of microbiological technology. It is clean, green and highly efficient, and can effectively avoid secondary pollution of bodies of water. It utilizes the characteristics of microorganisms, which can strip and degrade the foul black sludge attached to the river bed and achieve the goal of eliminating water pollution.

The lab established in Beijing in 2017 mainly deals with environmental problems such as the treatment of malodorous black rivers. It develops scientific and technological products for microbial environmental protection and makes good use of the power of natural microorganisms to achieve the green and efficient recovery of the ecological environment.

In recent years, China has experienced a high rate of urbanization and this has put pressure on China’s environment.

Organic pollution of rivers is widespread and has become increasingly prominent. Urban sewage is discharged directly into rivers. Rivers that pass through towns are seriously polluted. Rivers and lakes are frequently black and odorous, and this has become a serious environmental problem.

At the National Conference on Ecological and Environmental Protection held in May this year, President Xi Jinping pointed out that solving prominent ecological and environmental problems should be a priority to improve people’s living conditions.

He noted that an action plan to prevent and control water pollution should be meticulously applied to ensure the safety of drinking water and eliminate urban black and odorous bodies of water.
