With a theme of New era, new energy, new development and new accomplishment, the 8th Guangdong, Hong Kong Macau Power Industry Summit was held on July 26 under the auspices of China General Nuclear Power Corporation (CGN).

The summit was founded in 2011 at the initiative of China Southern Power Grid and has been hosted in turn by major electricity enterprises in Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macau. It is meant to ramp up the cooperation between these enterprises and give full play to their complementary advantages.

He Yu, chairman of CGN, delivered a keynote speech at the summit. He proposed that the attending enterprises should make the most of their strengths and build the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area into a green development demonstration zone.

All parties should deepen their cooperation to offer comprehensive energy service and seek an expansion into the global market under the Belt and Road Initiative, said He.

Li Qingkui, Chairman of China Southern Power Grid Co Ltd, advocated innovative cooperation and deepened interconnectivity and complementarities.

Richard LANCASTER, chief executive officer (CEO) of CLP Holdings Ltd, analyzed the trends and solutions to the global low-carbon and clean energy development. While sharing the CLP’s Climate Prospective 2050, he stressed the importance of digitalization to the transformation and upgrading of the energy industry.

Clean energy is set to become the main energy in the future due to the global pressure to reduce carbon emissions. The process will be driven by new energy technology and information technology development, said Fu Jianguo, chairman of Macau Electricity Co Ltd.

Fu also extended hopes that the attending enterprises will forge closer ties with each other and inject new impetus into the green, efficient and sustainable development of the power industry in the Greater Bay Area.

Representatives to the summit held in-depth discussions about how to enhance their cooperation, adopt new technology, develop clean energy, realize the transformation and upgrading of the energy industry, and go global.

Consensus was reached on strengthening cooperation, propelling green development of clean energy and building a better Greater Bay Area in line with national strategy.
