He Yu, Chairman of China General Nuclear Power Corporation (CGN), was invited to attend the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) CEO Summit 2018 in Port Moresby, the capital of Papua New Guinea (PNG) for activities and exchanges.
The summit, themed “Inclusion in the Age of Disruption: Charting a Common Future”, gathered the leaders of the 21 Pacific Rim member economies, as well as top business executives and innovative thinkers, to converse on how to secure shared development and achieve inclusive free trade across Asia and the Pacific.
Chinese President Xi Jinping delivered a keynote speech entitled “Jointly Charting a Course Toward a Brighter Future” on board the cruise ship Pacific Explorer on Nov 17.
“As we brave the rough waters of the global economy and confront many risks and challenges, it is all too befitting that we have come together on this ship to chart the course for future development and cooperation,” said Xi.
Xi made a five-pronged proposal on world economic development and global governance, stating that economies should focus on openness to create more space for development, focus on development to deliver more benefits to the people, focus on inclusiveness and promote interaction, focus on innovation to tap into new sources of growth, and focus on a rules-based approach to improve global governance.
“As we look back over the four decades of reform and opening-up, we in China are more convinced than ever before that only through reform and opening-up can China develop itself," Xi said.
Going forward, China will take an even more responsible approach, be even more open and inclusive, and strive to achieve an even higher quality of growth. By doing so, as it develops itself, China will make greater contributions to the common prosperity of the world, added Xi.
Calling the business community "an important force" in driving the economic development of the Asia-Pacific and the wider world, Xi urged business leaders to continue to share their insights with decision makers, encourage countries to adopt positive and practical policies and carry out extensive economic and technological cooperation.
