China Nuclear Power Engineering Co (CNPEC), a subsidiary of China’s largest nuclear power operator - China General Nuclear Power Corporation (CGN), has released a draft of National Standards for Concrete Structures in Nuclear Power Plants, at a review meeting in Liuzhou, Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region, Nov 21-25.
It was not only the first time for CGN to preside over national standards on nuclear power engineering as the chief editor, but also filled in the blank for China’s standards system of concrete structures in nuclear power plants. It was considered to be of great historical significance and valuable in engineering.
With the international development of China’s nuclear power in recent years, the standards system relating to the construction of nuclear power projects needs to be further updated and improved. The National Standards for Concrete Structures in Nuclear Power Plants, which include the standards for design, construction and acceptance, is an important component. Last year, the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development listed the standards in its proposed plan for national standards for construction projects in 2016.
The CNPEC stood out among a group of candidates for the role of chief editor thanks to its abundant experience in construction projects -- It has built 15 nuclear power units and remains the world’s largest constructor in terms of the number of under-construction units and installed capacity. It has also taken a leading role in designing concrete structures in nuclear power plants. In compiling the standards, CNPEC’s design institute used its practical experience and research achievements in the civil engineering works for nuclear power plants. Particular designs used included seismic-resistant structures and containment, and large aircraft crash impact analysis of nuclear safety, which ensured that the standards were compiled on time.
The compiling of the National Standards for Concrete Structures in Nuclear Power Plants does not only fill in the blank for China’s standard system of concrete structures in nuclear power plants, but also promotes the standardization of nuclear technology localization of nuclear materials. It also unifies the principles for construction and acceptance of concrete structures in nuclear power plants, and help to facilitate China’s nuclear technologies to go global.
