President Xi Jinping spoke highly of China General Nuclear Power Corporation (CGN)’s technological achievements when he inspected the China Pavilion at the World Expo 2017 on June 8, a day before the opening ceremony in Astana, capital of Kazakhstan.
Xi, accompanied by Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev, visited CGN’s exhibition booth and admired a model of Hualong One (HPR1000), a third-generation nuclear power technology with independent intellectual property rights.
CGN will promote the Hualong One design in Kazakhstan and other countries along the Belt and Road and further boost global cooperation on clean energy, CGN Chairman He Yu said in an interview with CCTV after Xi’s tour of the booth.
The company’s cooperation projects in Kazakhstan have experienced three stages, extending from trade of natural uranium at the beginning, followed by uranium exploitation, to nuclear fuel assembly processing and new uranium projects, He added.
The expo coincides with 17th Shanghai Cooperation Organization summit, which is also held on June 9 in Astana, Kazakhstan. As an official partner of the China Pavilion at the World Expo 2017, CGN will showcase its technological innovations and achievements in clean energy at the global event.
