An electron beam and environmental technology application joint research center was established at Tsinghua University on March 19 to advance the research and industrialization of electron beam technology in pollution prevention and control.
The research center will be operated under a cooperation agreement signed between CGN Dasheng Electron Accelerator Technology Co Ltd, a subsidiary of CGN Nuclear Technology Development Co Ltd, and the university’s Institute of Nuclear and New Energy Technology.
CGN Nuclear Technology Development boasts a high-end industrial nuclear technology application chain centered on its electron accelerator, while Tsinghua University has an edge in the applied research of electron beam irradiation and other environmental protection technology. Their cooperation is essential to nuclear technology-based environmental treatment in China.
Advanced science provides an effective way for impoverished areas to promote their unique products, thus helping them out of poverty. CGN’s electron beam irradiation technology has been helpful in preserving agricultural products and treating the environment in impoverished areas, according to Zhang Xiaohong, deputy director of the General Bureau of the State-Owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission of the State Council.
The state-owned enterprise is expected to continue making use of its strengths in market, information, and resources, and taking full advantage of the power of technology to further its poverty alleviation efforts, said Zhang.
