CGN-initiated national-local joint engineering research center gains approval

The establishment of the Nuclear Power Intelligent Equipment & Robot Applied Technology National-Local Joint Engineering Research Center, filed by the CGN Research Institute, was approved by the National Development and Reform Commission on April 20.

The research center is a response to the strong demand for intelligent equipment and robots in nuclear project construction, operation and maintenance, facilities decommissioning, the disposal of radioactive waste, and emergency rescue. It will provide solutions to information perception and long-range information transmission in heavy-shielding intense-radiation environments, the use of imaging technology under strong radiation and thermal disturbance, as well as a bottleneck in high-energy pulsed laser decontamination technology.



Its R&D team consists of more than 80 young but experienced staff members with an average age of less than 35. Over a decade, it has not only undertaken a great number of major national and regional sci-tech projects and enterprise-entrusted technology development projects, but also achieved a dozen technological R&D achievements. It plays an important role in guaranteeing safety, lowering operation risks and collective radiation exposure, and increasing intelligent operation and maintenance levels.

The research center, covering R&D, design, integration, testing and services, will advance the generic technology of intelligent equipment and robots, both in innovation and scientific and technological achievement transformation. It will also elevate CGN Research Institute’s competitiveness in thee field by enhancing its technological links with national engineering research centers, international institutions and enterprises.

A national-local joint engineering research center is a significant innovation platform bridging national and provincial engineering research centers. Its role is to break the key technology and equipment bottleneck, lead technological innovation, enhance competitiveness in the industry, and advance the sustainable development of the regional economy.
