On August 7, 2020, the eighth “8•7 Public Open Experience Day” was held at Daya Bay Nuclear Power Base. This Open Day Activity pioneered the industry once again, with the theme of “Plant corals on the seafloor, Wander the Nuclear Power Station”, implemented online live activities. Mr. Wang Yuheng, the Super Brain “Shui Ge”, playing the role as the chief coral conservation officer, and Mr. Zhang Cheng, the IUCN “Shui Ren”, and distinguished guest representatives from Shenzhen Dapeng New District Integrated Office and Coral Conservation Volunteer Federation (Diving lovers) and many netizens witness together official inauguration ceremony of “Daya Bay Nuclear Power Base Coral Conservation Area”, and completed the first batch of broken coral nursery cultivation, two nuclear anchors carried out Popular Science for all audiences on coral conservation and nuclear power knowledge for the whole process. Six nuclear power bases of CGN carried out joint actions, the aerial UAV overlooked the overall view, and the depth experience of the underwater coral planting, so that presented a unique live broadcast feast for the public.

“Daya Bay Nuclear Power Base Coral Conservation Area” officially opening
Daya Bay Nuclear Power Base, located in the beautiful coast of the South China Sea —— Dapeng Peninsula, Shenzhen City, Guangdong Province, comprises a total of six gigawatt-level nuclear power units, in Daya Bay Nuclear Power Station, Lingao Nuclear Power Station Phase I, Lingao Nuclear Power Station Phase II. As Daya Bay Company carries out long-term biodiversity conservation practice, a species-rich ecological circle has been formed on the land and surrounding sea areas of the whole nuclear power base.

“Daya Bay Nuclear Power Base Biodiversity Conservation Report” released by Shenzhen Mangrove Wetland Conservation Foundation, Diving lovers Association and other public organizations in 2019, shows that 11 km winding coastline in Daya Bay Nuclear Power Base provides a safe harbor for precious coral, is a “natural” coral conservation base. There are 15 species of stony corals as state class-2 protected animals, which have been found in the surrounding sea area, including honeycomb coral, Favites abdita, Plesiastrea versipora, Oulastrea crispata, Platygyra sinensis, Cyphastrea, Psammocora haimeana, Acanthastrea echinata and so on.

The global coral reef covers less than 3/1000 of the seabed, but provides a living environment for 1/4 of sea-life, known as the tropical rain forest of the seabed, and provides ecological space for the reproduction of sea-life. Conservation of biodiversity, coral conservation is a very basic and core work.
Prior to this activation, CGN publicly convened 40 coral conservation officers through WeChat, Micro-blogging, Tik Tok and other platforms, claimed and named coral broken branches of the first batch of completed nursery cultivation. On the same day, as the chief coral conservation officer, Mr. Wang Yuheng, “Shui Ge” dived deep down in the sea for opening “Daya Bay Nuclear Power Base Coral Conservation Area”, and fixed these nameplates engraved with the information of 40 coral conservation officers to the nursery. Subsequently, CGN will access video signals on the seabed so thatcoral conservation officers and netizens can observe the growth of corals online and witness corals from broken branches to independent corals.

In order for the public to deeply experience coral conservation and nuclear power plants, CGN implements innovatively “Wander the Nuclear Power Station” live broadcast through Micro-blogging, Tik Tok and Bilibili, while attracts CCTV, Shenzhen Satellite TV and other platforms to focus on this activation in CCTV video-chat, CCTV news, Sina and other platforms, attracted more than 500000 Netizens’ watching. Led by “Shui Ge” Wang Yuheng and two nuclear anchors, these audience followed the live shot to “enter” the nuclear power plant refueling pool——which is the only 1:1 model in China, the Daya Bay nuclear power control room, passing three access controls, multiple safety checks to enter the Ling’ao nuclear power plant phase-II operation area and watch the real-time work scene of nuclear engineers. In addition, with the help of drones and underwater shooting robot, we have experienced the unique charm of the beautiful scenery of “the most beautiful power plant in China” from the sea, land and air.

At the same time, six nuclear power bases of CGN carry out science popularization on-line synchronously, showing Sea of Flowers of Hongyanhe nuclear power base, White Dolphin of Yangjiang and Taishan nuclear power base, Egret of Fangchenggang nuclear power base and Tea Garden of Ningde nuclear power base, etc., presenting the unique beauty of each nuclear power base of CGN to the audience.

“Nuclear knowledge is at the forefront of science and technology, and the use of nuclear energy often brings people a sense of mystery and fear. when we approach it, we find that the nuclear energy is an efficient and clean energy source that makes the nature more harmonious and China more beautiful”. After years of development, CGN has a total installed capacity from clean energy exceeding 58 GW, including 24 nuclear power units in operation with installed capacity of 27.14 GW. As of 2019, CGN has produced on-grid power generation of 261.6 Twh, which is equivalent to reducing the consumption of 79.8167 million tons of standard coal and reducing carbon dioxide emissions by more than 210 million tons, and is equivalent to planting a forest of more than 580000 hectares.
Since 2013, CGN proactively carries out routine public open activities, while in order to commemorate the commencement date of construction of Daya Bay Nuclear Power Plant on August 7, 1987, the date of 7 August each year is named as “Public Open Experience Day”, and has been held for eight years consecutively, and it has become the national nuclear industry public communication brand project.
