On December 1, China Construction Enterprise Management Association announced the list of the first batch of National High Quality Project Awards in 2020-2021. “CGN Yangjiang Nuclear Power Plant Units 3 and 4 Nuclear Power Projects” passed multiple rounds of scoring and expert evaluation, and won the “National High Quality Project Gold Award”. At the same time, there are 18 application projects declared won the Gold Award.

The National High Quality Project Gold Award, is established in 1981 and approved by the State Council of the PRC, is the earliest national quality award in the field of engineering construction in China, carrying features of highest level, cross industry and cross specialties, and the “National High Quality Project Gold Award” is awarded to the outstanding projects.

As a national key energy construction project in the 11th Five Year Plan period, Yangjiang Nuclear Power Plant has been approved to construct six gigawatt-level PWR nuclear power units at one time, which is a landmark project for the “large-scale, serialized and standardized” development of nuclear power in China. Among them, units 3 and 4 adopt home-grown brand CPR1000+ nuclear technology, and the average localization rate of equipment exceeds 85%. Two units were officially put into commercial operation in January 2016 and March 2017 respectively, of which Unit 4 set a record for the shortest construction period of similar reactor type in the world.

During the construction process, the green construction scheme was adopted for units 3 and 4 to promote the Full Course Management, Overall Risk Management, Zero Defect Management and other international advanced management concepts. The overall project construction quality was evaluated as a high-quality super project, and was rated as “2019 Nuclear Energy High Quality Project”. In addition, the civil engineering construction of conventional island of Units 3 and 4 also won “the First Prize of National Excellent Welding Engineering”, and the steel structure engineering was awarded the “2014 China Steel Structure Gold Award”.
As of September 30, 2020, Units 3 and 4 have achieved 62.3 Twh on-grid power generation in total, equivalent to reducing 19.1 million tons of fossil energy consumption and 52.39 million tons of carbon dioxide emissions, equivalent to 140000 hectares of afforestation, which has achieved good economic, social and environmental benefits.
