CGN provides assistance to vulnerable groups in Malaysia and actively fulfils its corporate responsibilities

On August 16, EDRA Company, a subsidiary of CGN Energy International Holdings Co., Limited, came to vulnerable communities affected by the COVID-19 epidemic in Malaysia to carry out the activity of “distributing food and necessities” to five people's group houses in located in Kuala Lumpu and Selangor. This is the fourth time since the launch of the campaign on 8 August, and a total of 520 vulnerable families have been assisted to date, including poor families, single mothers and small vendors.



 Affected by the COVID-19 epidemic, some vulnerable groups in Malaysia face the dilemma of living beyond their means, many families living on daily wages have suffered pay cuts and even layoffs and provision of household has been cut off.

To help them out of their predicament, the Malaysian government launched a series of aid programs. The EDRA Company has been committed to fulfilling its social responsibilities and has responded positively and made every effort to participate in this initiative by joining the Women of Will, a non-profit organization, which is dedicated to improving the lives of vulnerable local women, helps the affected communities and families to help them reduce their financial burden and return to normal life.



Items of this assistance include white rice, oil, milk powder, canned sardines, white sugar, scallions, garlic, washing powder and soap, and basic daily necessities for two to three month use. Datuk Mohamad Nor, the CIO of EDRA Company said: “as school reopens and household spending goes up, this (AID) will provide a certain degree of help to families with reduced income, and let's tide over the difficulties together”.

When knowing that EDRA Company is a Chinese-invested enterprise, many beneficiaries said to the staff “thank you (XieXie)” in Chinese. “During the outbreak, we stayed at home, my husband had no work to do, my children couldn’t go to school, and I couldn't do business. With these aid items, our family will be able to live for the next two or three months.”," said one beneficiary SelvaraniSuramaniam.



Another beneficiary Siti Aida said that: “My husband has just returned to work, and I also try to do business online to help make up for the family, these aids can save us a lot of money”.

During the activity, EDRA Company insisted on “safety first”, fully implemented epidemic prevention and control measures, and strictly abided by the standard operating procedures stipulated by the Malaysian government.  All volunteers and beneficiaries wore masks and maintained social distance. The beneficiary can only go to the designated place to collect the aid after taking the body temperature and using hand sanitizer.

On the evening of August 16, Evening News “Buletin Utama TV3”, Malaysia's third Television Station, reported on the EDRA Company distributing food and necessities in prime time.
