Protecting Namibia’s National Flower—Welwitschia
The original construction plan for the Husab Uranium Mine would have required the transplantation of over 100 Welwitschia plants, Namibia’s national flower, each with an average lifespan of more than 1,000 years. After multiple optimization adjustments to the construction routes, only three plants were ultimately relocated, thus maximizing the protection of this rare species.
