A Strong Start to the "15th Five-Year Plan" — Lufeng Nuclear Power Unit 1's Nuclear Island CA03 Module Hoisted into Place
2026-01-23

At 16:57 on January 23, the CA03 module for the nuclear island of Lufeng Nuclear Power Unit 1 was hoisted into place after a series of standard operating procedures, including transportation, trial lifting, hoisting, slewing, lowering, and unhooking, which marks the successful completion of the first milestone in 2026 for the group's inaugural dual third-generation project, laying a solid foundation for a strong start to the "15th Five-Year Plan".

Located in the plant of nuclear island, the CA03 module has a semi-circular arc shape and is assembled from 17 wall modules. Together with the CA01 and CA20 modules, it forms the nuclear island's internal refueling water tank. The module has an overall chord length of 35.5 meters, a width of 14.5 meters, a height of 13.0 meters, and an assembled weight of 228.2 tons. Due to its unique semi-circular arc structure, the module is prone to deformation during lifting and rotation in windy conditions. Meanwhile, the narrow installation area and dense foundation reinforcement demand millimeter-level precision for hoisting posture control and accurate placement, posing significant challenges to the entire lifting operation.

To ensure the high-quality installation of the module, the project management team is committed to "empowering through technological innovation." During the module welding phase, the automatic wire feeding argon-rich gas shielded welding process replaced traditional manual operations, achieving the three-month assembly schedule target and shortening the construction period while ensuring quality. Adhering to the concept of integrated construction and installation, rebar tying and process piping installation were carried out simultaneously at the assembly site, significantly reducing cross operations. To ensure a successful one-time lift, the project management team organized multiple rounds of expert reviews months in advance, continuously optimizing the construction plan and meticulously designing the lifting path and temporary reinforcement measures. Before the lift, advanced technologies such as 3D laser scanning and simulated collision detection were used to accurately identify interferences. The entire lifting process was repeatedly rehearsed based on actual site conditions to precisely identify potential risks and develop corresponding contingency plans for each. A punch list was established to implement closed-loop management of all prerequisites, ensuring comprehensive control over construction quality and safety. Ultimately, the CA03 module was safely and accurately placed in a single lift, laying a solid foundation for the subsequent construction of the reactor internals.

Standing at the new starting point of the "15th Five-Year Plan", CGN Lufeng Nuclear Power will continue to deeply practice the work style of "rigor, prudence, meticulousness, and practicality," vigorously promote the "Lufeng Nuclear Spirit," and adhere to the value orientation of "focusing on three key areas." Guided by high-quality development, it will strictly control quality, implement the "six major controls," coordinate the "three major balances" in construction, and vigorously develop and apply new quality productive forces. Every effort will be made to build the project into a benchmark and a model of excellence, and to complete the group's first dual third-generation nuclear power base with high quality.
