At 19:58 on April 27, 2026, the pressure in the primary circuit of Unit 5 of CGN's Guangdong Lufeng Nuclear Power Project was reduced to atmospheric pressure, marking the successful completion of the cold functional test for Lufeng Nuclear Power Unit 5. This achievement lays a solid foundation for subsequent hot testing, fuel loading, and commercial operation of the unit.

At 18:01 on April 26, under the joint observation of the South China Nuclear and Radiation Oversight Station of the Ministry of Ecology and Environment and the Lufeng Nuclear Power Project production and engineering team, Unit 5 of the Lufeng Nuclear Power Project successfully completed the inspection at the maximum pressure platform of 223 bar.g for the cold functional test. The pressure boundary of the unit's primary circuit was confirmed to be intact with good sealing performance, and the performance of key equipment and the pressure resistance of the system met the required standards.
The cold test is the first key milestone in a nuclear power unit's transition from the installation phase to the joint commissioning and start-up phase. By conducting functional tests on the primary reactor coolant system and related auxiliary systems, as well as pressure tests on the high-pressure boundary, the cold test comprehensively verifies the integrity and sealing performance of the pressure boundary, including the primary circuit pipe welds, equipment, and high-pressure sections of associated systems.
The cold test for Unit 5 officially began on April 17. During the test, Lufeng Nuclear Power and the CGN Engineering Lufeng Project Department consistently adhered to the rigorous and meticulous work style. They established a joint command center under a unit-head responsibility system, aligning objectives, plans, and command. By integrating resources across multiple chains — including engineering, production, and safety — they formed several Party member task forces that worked together with all project participants to steadily advance various tasks. The entire test process was safe, stable, and well-controlled.

The Lufeng Nuclear Power Project is the first nuclear power project in eastern Guangdong Province. It is located in Jieshi Town, Lufeng City, under the administration of Shanwei City, Guangdong Province. The project is planned to consist of 6 million-kilowatt-class pressurized water reactor units. Once completed, the project will generate approximately 52 billion kWh of electricity annually, saving about 15.75 million tonnes of standard coal and reducing carbon dioxide emissions by approximately 48.05 million tonnes per year — equivalent to afforesting about 120,000 hectares of land.
