CGN's 557 MW Daesan Phase II gas-fired power project in South Korea entered commercial operation at 00:00 local time on July 24. A greenfield project independently developed by CGN in South Korea, it drew more than 100 South Korean companies into its construction, lifted construction efficiency by about 15%, and can generate up to 3.9 billion kilowatt-hours a year, providing a meaningful boost to local power supply.

The project sits in the Daesan Industrial Complex in Seosan, South Chungcheong Province, and is a key power-supply-security project under South Korea's 10th Basic Plan for Electricity Supply and Demand. Construction began in October 2023.
During construction, the South Korean Subsidiary of CGN Energy International Holdings Co., Ltd. departed from the conventional EPC contracting model and deployed the model of self-managed project design and procurement, successfully handling the full-cycle process of project design, procurement and manufacture surveillance of main and auxiliary equipment. The design management, procurement and surveillance, construction management and commissioning are all carried out by the company. The self-management approach delivered a roughly 10% cost advantage and include more than 100 South Korean companies deep into the project's supply chain, adding fresh momentum to local industrial development.
The project put in place a tiered quality-control system spanning design, procurement and construction, backed by an intelligent safety management system built on advanced communication technology and using intelligent measures to upgrade full cycle safety, quality and risk management process. All these has enable the project maintain zero abnormal incidents and zero lost-time injuries since construction began. On site, the team pushed ahead with smart-factory methods, including factory-based prefabrication and self-climbing installation of main equipment, saving about 14,400 labor-days in total and lifting construction efficiency by roughly 15% over conventional methods.
Zhang Chaoqun, Chairman of CGN Energy International, described Daesan Phase II as a key project through which CGN is implementing its "Gas Power Leadership" initiative, advancing its transition to greenfield development, and exploring self-managed delivery models for large overseas power projects. He noted that the plant's gas turbine can be retrofitted to burn a fuel blend containing up to 30% hydrogen. Once the green hydrogen supply chain matures, this retrofit capability could become an important potential source of profit growth.
CGN now operates five power plants in South Korea with a combined capacity of more than 2.2 million kilowatts, and will keep applying its clean-energy technology and management strengths to support the country's green, low-carbon transition and the safe, stable supply of electricity in the region.
