The 13th Mining Expo &Conference was recently held in Windhoek, Namibia, with Swakop Uranium (Pty) Ltd. ("Swakop Uranium"), a subsidiary of CGNPC Uranium Resources Co., Ltd., among the exhibitors. Organized by the Chamber of Mines of Namibia, the event attracted 222 exhibitors from around the world—including mining companies, technical service providers, and equipment suppliers—and featured 372 booths. Participants held in-depth discussions on mineral value addition, workplace safety, and the energy transition, and explored future opportunities for the mining industry. President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah of Namibia attended the event and visited Swakop Uranium's booth.

President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah delivered the keynote address at the opening ceremony. She said the mining industry needs to move from dialogue to concrete action, driving job growth and mineral value addition to achieve inclusive economic development. As a cornerstone of Namibia's national economy, she said, mining must prioritize safety and health management at mine sites and continue improving the investment and business environment, and she looked forward to cooperation among all parties.

Touring the exhibition, President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah visited Swakop Uranium's booth first and held detailed discussions with company representatives. She began by thanking CGN for the earlier invitation to visit its Daya Bay nuclear power base, then used the physical models on display to learn more about CGN's full industrial chain for converting uranium resources into clean energy. She said she hoped to further expand dialogue on nuclear energy in the future, deepen practical cooperation in mining, and support Namibia's industrialization.

During the expo, Swakop Uranium was awarded the 2025 Safety Award by the Chamber of Mines of Namibia, which recognizes mining companies with outstanding safety management and encourages the industry to uphold the highest production-safety standards. In recent years, Swakop Uranium has consistently followed the principles of "safety first, quality first, pursuit of excellence," continually improving its safety and quality management system through management and technical upgrades while maintaining stable output and raising safety standards. The company has earned a NOSA five-star rating for two consecutive years, continuing to contribute to the safe, stable development of Namibia's mining industry.

As one of the expo's featured exhibitors, Swakop Uranium unveiled an upgraded booth visualizing its full industrial chain, once again winning the expo's "Best Booth" award. The booth was built around the "HUSAB+" development philosophy, using open displays such as an ion-exchange column and a physical model of a nuclear power primary loop to vividly illustrate the full chain of value from uranium mining to clean nuclear power output. It also presented the full story of more than a decade of shared growth between CGN's Husab Uranium Mine and Namibia's local communities, showcasing concrete results in local talent development, contributions to the local economy, community building, water resource development and green, safe production—giving visitors a direct sense of how mining development can support local growth while advancing the global low-carbon transition.

Swakop Uranium also organized a series of interactive sessions, with staff from across the company forming a guide team to explain uranium mining, conversion and nuclear power generation in plain language, helping the public gain a scientific understanding of the uranium industry. Guides also drew on their own experiences to vividly describe the changes Husab has brought to local development, helping close the distance between the company and the public. "Seeing this exhibition, and how the booth connects concrete measures like talent development, community building and water resource development to the industry's growth, made me realize Husab is not just a resource-development project—it's an important force driving local development and benefiting people," said visitor Alina.

"In the past we mostly knew about the mining process at Husab. This time, the physical models on display—including a nuclear power primary loop, shown for the first time—gave us a much clearer picture of how uranium resources become clean nuclear power," said visitor Petrus, reflecting on his experience at the expo. "Seeing step by step how uranium produced in Namibia serves the global shift to low-carbon energy gave us a deeper appreciation of the value our local mining industry creates."

At a dedicated forum during the expo, Swakop Uranium's First Deputy General Manager, Irvinne Simataa, gave a presentation sharing the company's approach to sustainable development in depth. Citing the SUNAM desalination joint venture as an example, he said successful government-business cooperation should treat infrastructure as a shared national strategic asset, driving coordination between government and business to fill in critical supporting capabilities. "Mine safety cannot stop at bare compliance," he said. "It must always put people first and build a safety culture with genuine human care, laying a solid foundation for the industry's sustainable development."

As China's largest single industrial investment project in Africa, Swakop Uranium has upheld its mission of "More Than Mining, Beyond Mining" throughout the construction and operation of the Husab Uranium Mine. Guided by the HUSAB+ philosophy, the company has continued to invest in local employment, support for local businesses, youth skills development, community infrastructure, and water projects. It has become deeply integrated into local society and earned broad recognition from the Namibian government and local communities.

Looking ahead, Swakop Uranium will continue to deepen its government-business partnership, build a benchmark for people-centered safety management, and use concrete project outcomes to support high-quality Belt and Road cooperation—continuing to contribute to China-Namibia economic and trade friendship and Namibia's inclusive economic development.
