Hot Test Completed for CGN's San'ao Nuclear Power Unit 2
2026-04-29

At 8:28 on April 28, 2026, the hot functional test (commonly referred to as the "hot test") for Unit 2 of CGN's Zhejiang San'ao Nuclear Power Project was successfully completed.

The hot test is a core milestone before fuel loading for a nuclear power unit. Its purpose is to execute a series of comprehensive commissioning tests and periodic operational tests — covering the entire pressure and temperature range from the reactor pressure vessel being closed and bolted to the hot shutdown condition — prior to core fuel loading, thereby verifying the functionality and response of the nuclear steam supply system. During this phase, the reliability of nuclear island and conventional island systems and equipment under hot operating conditions, as well as the alignment of relevant parameters with design specifications, are verified under conditions that simulate as closely as possible the actual operating conditions of the nuclear power plant.

Despite the challenge of significantly overlapping commissioning schedules for two units, the San'ao Nuclear Power Project team consistently adhered to the fundamental principles of "safety first, quality first, and the pursuit of excellence." Guided by the goal of "balanced progress of both units with comprehensive optimization," the team fully drew on feedback and good practices from Unit 1 and previous projects. Through efficient collaboration, it successfully completed transient tests including the safety injection test, power supply switching test, and non-nuclear turbine run-up test, as well as all tests required at this stage by the commissioning program, all to a high standard.

Going forward, the San'ao Nuclear Power Project's integrated engineering and production team will continue to consistently adhere to the rigorous and meticulous work style, and will advance subsequent milestones — including fuel loading and grid connection — to a high standard, achieving the goal of "each unit better than the last" and continuing to contribute the strength of San'ao to the batch construction of Hualong One units.
