100% Green Power: CGN Named the Sole Green Power Supplier for 2026 APEC Economic Leaders’ Meeting
2026-09-23

Recently, CGN New Energy Holding Co., Ltd.’s Guangdong subsidiary. reached a green power cooperation agreement with Shenzhen International Exchange Center and signed the green power trading contract through the Guangdong Power Exchange Center platform. As the sole green power supplier for the 33rd Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Economic Leaders’ Meeting, CGN New Energy Guangdong will provide 100% green electricity coverage for the event with zero carbon emissions.

The 33rd APEC Economic Leaders’ Meeting will be held in Shenzhen, Guangdong Province, in November 2026. Centered on the theme “Building an Asia-Pacific Community to Prosper Together,” the meeting has designated “openness, innovation, and cooperation” as the three priorities of APEC's China year. This marks the third time China hosts APEC, following Shanghai in 2001 and Beijing in 2014.

As a key platform for China General Nuclear Power Corporation (CGN) to develop and operate non-nuclear clean and renewable energy power projects in Guangdong, CGN New Energy Guangdong has been fully responsible for CGN’s new energy reform, innovation and operations in the province since its founding in 2007. Its business portfolio encompasses offshore wind, onshore wind, photovoltaic (PV) power, energy storage, and power sales. Currently, its installed capacity in operation and under construction exceeds 6 GW, with a cumulative clean electricity of 47 billion kWh. This is equivalent to saving approximately 14.57 million tonnes of standard coal and reducing carbon dioxide emissions by 38.78 million tonnes. Ranking among the leading players in Guangdong in both installed capacity and operating performance, the company plays an important role in optimizing Guangdong’s clean energy mix and accelerating regional socio-economic development.

Offshore wind power serves as the core business sector in CGN New Energy Guangdong's strategic layout across the province, where multiple benchmark projects have come online to form a backbone supply matrix of green power for the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. Notably, CGN’s offshore wind power projects in Yangjiang boast a total installed capacity of 2,400 MW, anchored by two flagship projects, the 400 MW Nanpeng Island Offshore Wind Power Project and the 2,000 MW Fanshi Offshore Wind Power Project.

▲ CGN Nanpeng Island Offshore Wind Power Project

The CGN 400 MW Nanpeng Island Offshore Wind Power Project is the first offshore wind power project in Guangdong Province built in waters deeper than 10 meters and located more than 10 kilometers offshore. The project delivers over 1 billion kWh of on-grid electricity annually, saving 311,500 tonnes of standard coal and curbing carbon dioxide emissions by 828,800 tonnes.

The 2,000 MW Fanshi Project represents CGN’s first nearshore deep-water offshore wind project. The Fanshi I Offshore Wind Power Project was commissioned in June this year, while the Fanshi II Offshore Project is scheduled to enter service in late September. Once fully operational, the project will further accelerate the green, low-carbon energy transition and enhance the quality and efficiency of marine economy in western Guangdong.

▲ CGN Shanwei Offshore Wind Power Project

Located in the waters south of the stretch from Hudong Town to Jiazi Town in Lufeng, Shanwei City, the CGN Shanwei Offshore Wind Power Project serves as a gigawatt-scale offshore wind base in eastern Guangdong. It features a total installed capacity of 1,400 MW, comprising the 500 MW Houhu project and the 900 MW Jiazi project. The base supplies approximately 4.5 billion kWh of clean power to Guangdong Province each year, effectively reducing standard coal consumption by about 1.45 million tonnes and carbon dioxide emissions by roughly 3.5 million tonnes, equivalent to afforesting approximately 9,000 hectares. Notably, CGN’s “Fuxi No.1”, a mega-scale integrated wind-and-fishery aquaculture cage platform in China, is located at the Houhu Offshore Wind Farm in Shanwei. Capable of directly withstanding Category 17 super typhoons, the platform is expected to generate an annual output value of 54 million yuan once operational, serving as a landmark demonstration for the integrated development of “offshore wind + marine ranching” in China.

▲ CGN Huizhou Port Offshore Wind Power Project

The CGN Huizhou Port 1,000 MW Offshore Wind Power Project achieved full-capacity grid connection in December 2023. It supplies approximately 3 billion kWh of clean electricity annually to Guangdong Province, offsetting standard coal consumption by roughly 1 million tonnes and reducing carbon dioxide emissions by approximately 2.35 million tonnes, equivalent to reforesting 6,750 hectares.

▲ CGN Lufeng Terminal Project

To reinforce the foundation of the offshore wind power industry, CGN New Energy Guangdong developed China’s first dedicated dock for large-scale offshore wind power project  in Lufeng, Shanwei City. Serving as critical supporting facility for the Shanwei Offshore Wind Power Project and the Lufeng Marine Engineering Base, the dock facilitates the port entry and exit of raw materials and heavy equipment as well as offshore wind operations and maintenance. Now fully operational, it provides essential infrastructure to underpin the large-scale development of offshore wind and the cluster growth of marine new energy industries in Shanwei.

▲ CGN Jiangmen Longwen Wind Farm

Alongside its expansion into offshore wind, CGN New Energy Guangdong has driven the coordinated development of onshore wind power, PV power, and energy storage. Commissioned in September 2012, the Jiangmen Longwen Wind Farm, CGN’s largest onshore wind project in Guangdong, has delivered a steady supply of clean power for years. The Shanwei Xinfeng 240 MW fishery-PV complementary project was named among the national demonstration clean energy projects across 100 counties and 1,000 sites, achieving efficient integration of PV power generation and aquaculture. In July 2025, the Huizhou Yaoshan 100 MW/100 MWh energy storage station achieved full-capacity grid connection and officially entered commercial operation, effectively making up for the intermittency and volatility of new energy generation and supporting stable regional grid operation and efficient new energy integration.

Spanning from onshore to offshore, and evolving from wind power to an integrated energy matrix combining wind, solar, storage, hydrogen, and port infrastructure, CGN New Energy Guangdong leverages its technical strength in clean energy to guide green development through innovation and fulfill its responsibilities as a central state-owned enterprise. Serving as the sole green power supplier to guarantee a 100% green power supply for the 2026 APEC Economic Leaders’ Meeting is a concrete manifestation of its sustained commitment to green energy and to achieving the “dual carbon” goals, and it also brings the strength of a central state-owned enterprise to green, low-carbon event hosting.
