An Chinese Fable Takes the Stage in Brazil: CGN Brazil Supports the China-Brazil Year of Culture
2026-09-08

On September 4 local time, The Snipe, the Clam and the Fish, a classic children's play by the China National Theatre for Children, supported by the Brazilian subsidiary ("CGN Brazil") of CGN Energy International Holdings Co., Limited (CGNEI), was staged at Teatro Vila Mariana in São Paulo and drew more than 600 attendees from all walks of life in the city. The performance, with its Chinese aesthetic staging and lively storytelling, earned enthusiastic applause. Attendees included Yu Peng, Chinese Consul General in São Paulo; Gandra, head of the São Paulo Municipal Secretariat of International Relations; Li Dongcheng, Chief Representative of the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade's representative office in Brazil; and Luo Shihao, President of the Brazilian Social and Cultural Research Center.

The performance was presented as part of the 2026 China-Brazil Year of Culture jointly organized by both nations. As a principal supporter, CGN Brazil facilitated the staging of this major theatrical production in Brazil, fostering the integration of Chinese clean energy corporate branding with bilateral cultural exchange. Under Brazil's Cultural Incentive Law (Lei Rouanet), which encourages companies to support cultural projects through tax incentives, CGN Brazil has actively responded to local government policy by supporting cultural exchange activities, achieving an combination of tax efficiency with brand promotion and corporate social responsibility.

Adapted from the classic Chinese fable "When the snipe and the clam grapple, the fisherman profits." The children's play The Snipe, the Clam and the Fish integrates theater, dance, martial arts, painting, and music. Relying on the actors' expressive physical movement, puppet-inspired characters, stage design inspired by Chinese ink-wash painting, and Chinese traditional music to tell its story, the production follows a snipe and a clam, each refusing to yield in a fight over a fish, until both are caught by a fisherman. They finally escape by working together in tacit understanding, conveying the Eastern cultural values of living in harmony and coexistence. Throughout the performance, the young audience in São Paulo stayed fully engaged, often bursting into laughter and exclamations of amazement at the highlights. They greeted the curtain call with enthusiastic applause and were reluctant to leave even after the show ended.

CGN's brand elements were naturally integrated into the theater and cultural exchange activities. Screens in the lobby displayed CGN brand posters featuring imagery inspired by Chinese aesthetics and the brand slogan "Natural Energy Powering Nature." A reception display featuring wind turbine models, cultural and creative merchandises, and corporate brochures attracted visitors. Before the performance, the theater's main screen played CGN's brand film, presenting the vision of a Chinese clean energy company building a greener future together and conveying, through cultural exchange, the pursuit of harmonious coexistence between humanity and nature.

Yu Peng stated that the performance stood out as a highlight of this year's China-Brazil Year of Culture events in São Paulo. Rooted in traditional Chinese tale and communicated through dynamic staging and artistic expression, the performance made a well-known Chinese story accessible to Brazilian audiences while conveying core Chinese values of peace, harmony, and concord. He added that cultural exchanges through the performing arts, especially those engaging younger generations, foster deeper mutual understanding between the people of both nations.

During its tour across Brazil, The Snipe, the Clam and the Fish will present multiple performances in São Paulo and Campinas, offering broader Brazilian audiences an immersive experience of Chinese culture through children's theater.
