First Core Fuel Loading Successfully Completed for Unit 2 of CGN's Guangdong Taipingling Nuclear Power Plant
2026-05-03

At 11:45 on May 3, 2026, the first core fuel loading for Unit 2 of CGN's Guangdong Taipingling Nuclear Power Plant (hereinafter referred to as "Taipingling Nuclear Power Plant") was successfully completed.

As the first Hualong One nuclear power construction base in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area and CGN's flagship project for the batch construction and operation of Hualong One units, Taipingling Nuclear Power Plant Unit 1 successfully completed its 168-hour trial operation on April 19, 2026, and officially achieved commercial operation status. The completion of first fuel loading for Unit 2 marks the unit's official transition from the engineering construction phase to the nuclear commissioning phase, representing a key step toward the full completion and commissioning of the first phase of the project.

Taipingling Nuclear Power Plant Unit 2, which adopts the Hualong One third-generation nuclear power technology with China's fully independent intellectual property rights, began construction on October 15, 2020. During the construction process, the project team fully implemented the new development philosophy, driving high-quality development through innovation and actively developing new productive forces. It continuously advanced the "Five Modernizations" — modularization, mechanization, automation, digitalization and intelligence, and intrinsic safety. By fully drawing on the successful experience from the construction and commissioning of Unit 1, the team further optimized construction techniques and management processes, successfully completed the hot functional test of Unit 2 to high standards, and implemented a series of digital and intelligent applications, including digital handover, a digital transformation project for spare parts, and exoskeleton robots. These intelligent technologies empowered the entire nuclear power business process, effectively enhancing construction safety and efficiency and ensuring that all major milestones progressed steadily as planned. This has laid a solid foundation for achieving the overall goal of "each unit better than the last," fully demonstrating the maturity and high efficiency of CGN's batch construction of Hualong One units.

Taipingling Nuclear Power Plant is planned to consist of 6 Hualong One units. Once all 6 units are fully completed and put into operation, the annual power generation will exceed 55 billion kWh, generating over RMB 20 billion in green GDP. This would reduce standard coal consumption by approximately 16.65 million tonnes per year and cut carbon dioxide emissions by about 50.82 million tonnes per year. The environmental benefits would be equivalent to planting nearly 120,000 hectares of forest in Huizhou.
